Voice Of Democracy | Patriot's Pen

VOICE OF DEMOCRACY AND PATRIOTS PEN COMPETITION
 
The Adams –Friendship Veterans of Foreign War’s Post 6279, sponsors this yearly contest that provides local students in A-F High School and the A-F Middle school, respectfully, with the opportunity to win monetary awards, plaques, and medals, for finishing in the top three locally. The first place winner of each category advances to compete at the district, state and ultimately the National level depending on the quality of their submitted essay. These essays are to be submitted to the post no later than 31 October each year. All students, who are US citizens, in public, private, or are home schooled are eligible and need not go to a local school to submit an essay. You need only to contact the VFW post at 608-339-6818 or the post officers listed below.

A-F High school had 7 participants compete in the Voice of Democracy contest. First place winner at the post level was Kylie Frasure, a Senior at A-F High School, Second place - Katrina Wells, and Third Place - Savannah Jepson. Kylie advance to the district finals and did not place. The theme this year was "Why is the Veteran Important”. All three will receive a monetary award, a certificate, and a plaque for their participation. All Voice of Democracy participant’s will receive a certificate.

The A-F Middle school had 2 students participate in the Patriots Pen contest. The theme this year was "MY PLEDGE to OUR VETERAN'S”. The First place winner was Raina Joslin 7th grade; Second place was Trinity Hansen 7th grade. All winners will receive a monetary award, certificate and a plaque for their essay. Raina advanced to the district level contest but did not place. All Patriots Pen participant’s will receive a certificate.

Neither the public or the schools submitted a teacher for the Teacher of the year awards. This occurs simultaneously with the student essays. Seven years ago the High School won the state award.

The judging for the above events were done by the following Judges from Adams-Friendship. Patriots Pen: Hariet Dehlinger, Terry Hatlevig, Beverly Downey, and Mary Eggebrecht. Voice of Democracy: John Jones, Pastor Downey, and Richard King. We especially wish to thank the judges for their patriotic service to the VFW.
