Established 1914 The members of the Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars set out to serve the veterans of this country and our communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in uniform.
The founders of the Auxiliary VFW placed the greatest emphasis on a program developed to assist veterans returning from battle and assimilating into civilian life. Today the organization continues to help those coming directly from the battlefield or from the hospital as they try to re-establish themselves and maintain normal, happy lives with their families and their communities.
On July 20, 2015, delegates to the VFW's 102nd National Convention in Pittsburgh voted to amend the dated by-law to extend the same membership opportunity to eligible males. The gender-specific eligibility requirement only allowing eligible female spouses and family members of any Veteran of a foreign war had been in place for more than 100 years.
Its objectives are:
Provide assistance to the VFW Post and its members whenever possible.
Provide assistance to the Auxiliary members whenever possible.
Maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America.
Maintain fidelity to the Constitution and Laws of the United States of America.
Foster true Patriotism.
Maintain and extend the Institutions of American Freedom, Equal Rights and Justice to all men and women.
Preserve and Defend the United States of America from all her enemies whomsoever.
One of the most successful projects under this program is Operation Uplink. VFW and Auxiliary members across the country raise money to purchase vital PINs and internet cafes for veterans and overseas soldiers.
